About

The Full Story

For more than 70 years, First Christian Church of Hammond (Disciples of Christ) has been a place where all are welcome. From the beginning, our founders envisioned a church that would not only be a place of worship but also a home for cultural, civic, and charitable life. A space for the community to come together in shared purpose. That mission continues today.

We open our doors to neighbors, friends, and visitors from all walks of life. Whether you are seeking spiritual guidance, looking for a creative outlet, or simply wanting to be part of a caring community, there is a place for you here. Our congregation shares space daily with groups supporting adults with developmental disabilities, people in addiction recovery, seniors, students, and countless others. Our auditorium and classrooms host concerts, plays, lectures, recitals, and community gatherings, keeping the spirit of connection and learning alive.

Our historic campus, designed by nationally recognized architect John Desmond, is a gem of Mid-Century Modern architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. But it is not just the buildings that matter, it is the life lived within them. From helping neighbors after Hurricane Ida to hosting community baby showers and providing meals for those in need, FCCH continues to be a place where people are cared for, supported, and celebrated.

As we care for and preserve our historic campus, we are also renewing our commitment to our mission: to be a welcoming, nurturing, and purposeful place for all. First Christian Church of Hammond is here for worship, for service, for music and the arts, and most of all, here for everyone who walks through our doors.
